My Thoughts on Japan

こんいちは!アンバです~

This is a long overdue blog post. I was regrettably admit that since I've returned, I've been lazy and been somewhat neglecting my studies and my blog. I apologize for this, and I promise I'll get back to updating at least once a week!

Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun, sushi, bonsai trees, shrines, and Pokemon! It was a lot to take in at first, but I managed! (Haha) To be perfectly honest, if you were to ask myself 5 years ago, I would've said, "To live in Japan!"

It hasn't changed one bit.

However, my viewpoint on Japan has changed. I thought I knew about the Japanese culture and the way the people acted, after all, I've watched countless of videos on Japan on YouTube, I've spent hours just looking at pictures, and reading blog posts about people living there. Even so, experiencing it is so much more intimidating, yet so much more rewarding.

There is so much more to Japan than what you can believe. Even in a busy city like Tokyo I could see how different this country was compared to America. Which is to be expected, after all, I'm in a nation halfway across the world from where I live!

Now let's talk about food! Yes, food. Yummy food. Delicious food that makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Japanese food is so much healthier than American food, that's for sure.

Every morning, my Host Mother would wake up really early just to prepare us breakfast (which usually consists of an egg, veggies, rice, juice, and some Kombu on top. It's so good. In the beginning, it was hard for my to transition into Japanese food, only because it was a bunch of foods I've never tried before. But everything was either delicious, or just plain out gross. (I'm looking at you Wasabi! *glare*)

I actually lost weight while I was in Japan! Can you believe that? I ate until I was stuffed and always had ice cream on me whenever I stopped by Family Mart, but hey, their diet is healthy and I was doing so much walking.

I loved where I stayed in Japan, my host families house was so nice and they were always so kind to me and Kata. I already miss them, and I hope that they're healthy. We stayed in a quieter part of Japan, yet it was right outside of Japan's Disney Land (Maihama), so you can expect the tourist and trains to be packed.

Well, moving on to my opinion about Japan... I still want to live there, but it's no longer an infatuation over the pop culture. I love the way the people treated me (not the perverts), and how curtest everyone was to everyone. However, I won't make my decision final until I go there for college, after all, as from what my friend Vince told me:

"There is a difference between staying in Japan for a few weeks, and living and working here."

Those are some words of wisdom right there.
